The American family film War Babies by director Charles Lamont is a comedy from the 1932 “Baby Burlesque” film series.
It is one of the first short films in which Shirley Temple plays the lead role.
The baby burlesque films were created as a counterpart to the successful series Die kleine Strolche (Our Gang / The Little Rascals).
In these films, young children in diapers starred, playing adults, somewhat similar to the film Bugsy Malone .
action
A group of soldiers recover from the war in a bar. Milk is served there instead of alcoholic beverages. Lollipops serve as money .
Charmaine is a dancer. All soldiers are enthusiastic about their dance . After the dance, Sergeant Quirt asks her to come to the bar and offer her a lollipop. You can tell that Charmaine earns well by her handbag full of lollipops.
Captain Flagg is also interested in Charmaine. Charmaine takes advantage of the rivalry between the two and gets lollipops from both of them. After a few more slapstick scenes, a messenger appears.
