Charles Lewis (born October 30, 1953 ) is an American journalist . Lewis founded the Center for Public Integrity in 1989 . He left a well-paying job on investigative television magazine 60 Minutes on the CBS news channel because the main topics were not aired. In 2005, Lewis founded Global Integrity , an independent organization that investigates corruption around the world. Lewis and the Center for Public Integrity (CPI) became known to the general public in April 2013 through the offshore leaks . With this revelation , the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists , which is based at the CPI, reported on the mass concealment of assets in tax havens and offshore financial centers .

Scientific activity

Lewis was Ferris Professor at Princeton University in 2005, a Shorenstein Fellow at Harvard University in Spring 2006, and is Professor of Journalism at American University in Washington.

Awards

Lewis received a MacArthur Fellowship in 1998 . The PEN Club USA recognized Lewis with its First Amendment Award in 2004 for being an individual who has shown extraordinary courage in defending freedom of expression in the US and a selfless commitment to the rights offered by the First Amendment have shown .
