Charles Lyell, 3rd Baron Lyell

Charles Lyell, 3rd Baron Lyell (March 27, 1939 - January 10, 2017 ) was a British politician and a member of the House of Lords for the Conservative Party .

Lord Lyell is the son of Charles Anthony Lyell, 2nd Baron Lyell and Sophie Mary Trafford. He inherited its title in 1943 at the age of 4 when his father fell during World War II and was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross . After the formation of the Conservative government in 1979, Lord Lyell became Whip , a position he held until 1984. He then went to the Northern Ireland Ministry as Parliamentary Undersecretary, where he served until 1989.

With the adoption of the House of Lords Act 1999 , he lost along with all other Erbpeers ( Hereditary Peers automatic seat on the) House of Lords . However, he was elected as one of the 92 elected Hereditary Peers to remain in the House after the reform.

With his death, his titles of nobility expired.
