Charles Marie Benjamin Rouget (born August 19, 1824 in Gisors , † 1904 in Paris ) was a French physiologist and histologist .

Rouget was from 1860 professor of physiology at the University of Montpellier . In 1873, Rouget discovered ramified contractile cells ( pericytes ) that were connected to the capillaries . The pericytes are still called Rouget cells today.
