Charles Alexander Nuetzel (born November 10, 1934 in San Francisco , California ) is an American writer and publisher, primarily of science fiction .

Life

Nuetzel is the son of the illustrator Albert Augustus Nuetzel (1901–1969) and Betty Nuetzel, née Stockberger. He attended the San Fernando Valley State College for a semester and then worked in various professions, including as a pop singer and as a film technician. In 1962 Nuetzel married Brigitte Marianne Winter.

From 1960 he began to publish short stories and novels under a large number of pseudonyms, but also under his own name. His better-known works include Lost City of the Damned (1961), a Lost World story, and the Noomas series, a cycle of fantasy novels in the style of Edgar Rice Burroughs with echoes of John Norman's Gor stories. Many of his stories have a more or less pronounced erotic element.

Nuetzel also worked as an agent and editor of his own paperback series ( Powell Science Fiction ) and as a publisher ( NAC Publications ). In 1971 Nuetzel retired from writing. At that time he had published over 70 novels and over 100 short stories. Many of his scattered or obscure stories and novels were reprinted from 2006 by Wildside Press and others, also as e-books .
