Charles Ray (artist)

Charles Richardson Ray (* 1953 in Chicago ) is an American object artist, multimedia and film artist.

Charles Ray graduated from the University of Iowa , Iowa City and graduated cum laude in 1975 . He then continued to study at the Mason Gross School of Art , Rutgers University in New Jersey until 1979.

Charles Ray had his first solo show in Los Angeles in 1983. Since then, his art has been shown at numerous exhibitions, biennials and museums around the world. He was twice a participant in the Venice Biennale (1993 and 2003) and DOCUMENTA IX in 1992 in Kassel .

In 2008 he was honored with admission to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .

Charles Ray lives and works in Los Angeles .
