Charles Stanley , full name Charles Frazier Stanley (* 25. September 1932 in Dry Fork , Virginia ) is an American theologian , pastor of the Baptist Church of Atlanta ( First Baptist Church of Atlanta ), author of Christian books and founder of the evangelical ministry in Touch ministries . His radio and television show In Touch with Dr. Charles Stanley is broadcast worldwide in over 50 languages.

Live and act

Charles Stanley is the son of Charles and Rebecca Stanley. His father died when Stanley was nine months old. At the age of 14 he was already committed to a full-time Christian ministry. He graduated from the University of Richmond (Virginia) with a Bachelor of Arts and completed a degree in theology at Southwestern Theological Seminary in Texas , which he graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity . At the Luther Rice University in Georgia he made the Master Accounts and became a doctor of theology doctorate .

In 1971 he became a senior pastor of the First Baptist Church of Atlanta and in 1972 initiated his radio show The Chapel Hour . The show In Touch with Dr. Charles Stanley , which is broadcast worldwide on over 1,800 radio and television stations in over 50 languages. His concern here is "to lead people worldwide into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and to strengthen the local Church." In the 1980s he was twice President of the Southern Baptist Convention .

After a long period of turbulence, he divorced his wife Anna Johnson Stanley († 2014) in 2000 after 44 years of marriage. This drew criticism from within the leadership of the Southern Baptist Convention, but has not impaired the long-term success of its work.

Stanley has a daughter and a son. His son Andy Stanley is a senior pastor at North Point Community Church in Alpharetta .

Charles Stanley is the author of over 45 books, some of which have also been published in German translation.
