Charles Williams (writer, 1886)
Charles Walter Stansby Williams (born September 20, 1886 in London , † May 15, 1945 in Oxford ) was a British writer and mystic .
Life
He was both a member of the Christian literary circle of the Inklings and the Fellowship of the Rosy Cross , an offshoot of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn . He is considered the founder of urban fantasy ; literary his work is closer to Arthur Machens than JRR Tolkien , another member of the Inklings. The author CS Lewis was one of his friends .
