Charles de La Verpillière

Charles de La Verpillière (born May 31, 1954 in Bourg-en-Bresse ) is a French politician . He has been a member of the National Assembly since 2007 .

De La Verpillière grew up in Lagnieu , then studied at the École nationale d'administration in Strasbourg and began a career as an administrative officer. When he entered the General Council of the Ain department in 1988, he acquired his first political office. In 1995 he was elected mayor of Lagnieu. However, he resigned this office in 2004 when he was elected President of the General Council. In 2007 he ran for the UMP in the second constituency of the Ain department and was elected to parliament. In 2012 he was re-elected. At the end of November 2012, he was one of around 70 MEPs led by François Fillon who split off from the UMP parliamentary group and founded their own parliamentary group under the name R-UMP.
