The Charlesworth Cliffs are a series of rocky cliffs in the East Antarctic Coatsland . They loom near the northern end of the central ridge of the Herbert Mountains in the Shackleton Range .
Aerial photographs were taken in 1967 by the United States Navy . The British Antarctic Survey carried out surveys from 1968 to 1971. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the cliffs on January 5, 1972 after the British geologist John Kaye Charlesworth (1889–1972) from Queen's University Belfast .
