Charlevoix is a city in the north of the US state Michigan . It is located on Lake Michigan and had a population of around 3,000 in 2000. There is also the seat of the county administration ( County Seat ).

Charlevoix is located between Lake Michigan in the west and Lake Charlevoix to the southeast in the northwest of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. Both lakes are connected by a small river and Round Lake. The distance to the state capital, Lansing , is around 295 kilometers. According to the United States Census Bureau, the area of Charlevoix is 5.6 km², of which 0.3 km² is water.
Demographics
According to the 2000 census, Charlevoix has 2994 people in 1375 households and 812 families. Racially, the population is made up of 95 percent white population, three percent American Indians and smaller minorities.
Children under the age of 18 live in 25.7% of the 1,375 households, married couples in 46.7%, singles in 9.6% and 40.9% are not family households. 35.4% of all households consist exclusively of a single person and 15.2% are single people over 65 years of age. The average household size is 2.14 people, that of families 2.76.
In relation to the entire city, the population is made up of 21.6% residents under 18 years of age, 8.4% between 18 and 24 years of age, 26.4% between 25 and 44 years of age, 24.2% between 45 and 64 years of age 19.4% over 65 years. The median is 41 years. About 53% of the population is female.
