Charlie Alexander

Charlie Alexander (born May 29, 1890 in Cincinnati , Ohio , † February 4, 1970 ) was an American jazz pianist .

In Cincinnati he began in the early 1920s, initially playing as a professional musician in theater orchestras. He continued this for the time being after moving to Chicago in the band of J. Rosamund Jackson, until he got engagements in jazz bands such as Johnny Dodds and Bert Kelly. In the early 1930s he was a pianist in the big band Louis Armstrong , but left after Armstrong had decided in 1932 to perform again with smaller formations. Charlie Alexander was active until the 1940s. He has also worked with Baby Dodds , Mike McKendrick , George James , John Lindsay and Lil Hardin Armstrong , among others . He eventually moved from Chicago to California.
