Charlie Brown (musician)
Charlie Brown (* near Putnam , Texas ) is an American rockabilly musician.
Life
Charlie Brown was born on a farm near Putnam, Texas . As a child, Brown always wanted to learn to play the guitar , but never got around to it. He married when he was 18 and then worked as a farmer.
In 1954, Brown founded his own label, Rose Records, in Cisco , near Dallas . With this label, he released his first single Mean Mean Mama earlier this year, which was recorded a year earlier. Have You Heard the Gossip / Don't Put the Blame on Me followed in November , which were among the first rockabilly records. On his first single he was accompanied by the Lazy V-Hands ; later Brown was supported by the Cisco Kids . On appearances as well as on recordings it was mostly Betty Bishop ( bass ), Bill Simmons (guitar), Bill Peck ( drums ), Jimmy Rawlins (guitar) and Roy Thackerson ( electric guitar ).
In addition to his singles, Brown also recorded some unreleased songs such as the instrumental piece Pickin ' or his version of the Milkcow Blues Boogie . Terry Gordon's discography project Rockin 'Country Style also awarded Brown a version of Be-Boppin' Daddy , which was actually recorded by Mack Banks , as it is also noted on the accompanying white label LP.
Brown failed to gain a foothold in the music scene and returned to his main job. Brown later became a successful farmer with estates in Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma . When he was 40, he bought a guitar and eventually learned to play it.
