Charmaine Scotty

Charmaine Eraidinomo Scotty is a Nauruan politician. Since 2013 she has been a member of the Nauruan Parliament and Minister of the Interior , Education and Land Management .

Career

Scotty attended the Baradene College of the Sacred Heart in Auckland . From 1990 she worked in the civil service of Nauru. Initially, she worked as a teacher for nine years. Afterwards she was ministerial secretary in the areas of sport, youth and women, health, justice and home affairs.

Scotty initially ran three unsuccessful parliamentary elections, with 2007 and 2010 just missing the required number of votes. On June 8, 2013, she won the most votes in her constituency of Yaren . This made her the second woman after Ruby Dediya to be elected to the Nauruan parliament. President Baron Waqa appointed her Minister of the Interior and Minister of Education and Land Management. In the elections on July 9, 2016, she was able to repeat her success and was subsequently appointed minister again.

Charmaine Scotty is married to a cousin of former President Ludwig Scotty .
