The Charybdis Icefalls are a strongly fissured glacial break in East Antarctica, Victoria Land . It lies in the lower section of the Harlin Glacier , where that slopes down to the Rennick Glacier . The glacier break is fed in part by the Lovejoy Glacier , which flows parallel to the northern flank of the Harlin Glacier.
The United States Geological Survey mapped it between 1962 and 1963. Participants of the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition repeated this from 1963 to 1964. The latter named it after Charybdis , a sea monster from Greek mythology.
