Chasqui-1 is a Peruvian amateur radio satellite belonging to the Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería in Lima . The name Chasqui is Quechua and means "messenger". It is the first Peruvian satellite in Earth orbit .
Structure and Mission
Chasqui-1 was developed by students at the university in collaboration with ESA .
The intention of the satellite is the further development of Cubesat technology through the implementation of nanotechnology as well as the recording of images and their transmission to earth.
Chasqui-1 is based on the CubeSat standard and consists of one unit (1U). It has the dimensions 10 cm × 10 cm × 10 cm and weighs about 1 kg.
It was launched on August 18, 2014 at 14:23 UTC by the International Space Station during the 2nd EVA of ISS Expedition 40 , after taking off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on February 5 with a Progress spacecraft .
The satellite contains a radio beacon which transmits on the frequency 435.025 MHz in 1200 baud AFSK , AX.25 or 9600 baud GMSK .
Since Chasqui-1 is viewed as a subsatellite of the ISS, it received a COSPAR designation with 1998-067ET , which was derived from that of the ISS and which includes the ISS launch year 1998.
