Chek Lap Kok ( Chinese 赤 鱲 角 , Pinyin Chìlièjiǎo , Jyutping Cek 3 laap 6 gok 3 - "Cape of the Red Sea Bream / Pagrus major") is an uninhabited island of Hong Kong , on which the Hong Kong International Airport has been located since 1998 .
In the course of the airport construction, it was significantly artificially changed between 1990 and 1998. The island, which is up to 100 meters high, was removed to a height of seven meters and significantly enlarged.
This made it the third largest island in Hong Kong in terms of area.
