Cheniere Energy is an American energy company based in Houston . He operates the LNG -Terminal Sabine Pass on the border between Texas and Louisiana ( ). This was originally built in 2005–2009 as a terminal for the import of gas. However, due to the shale gas boom in the USA, it was decided to convert it into an export terminal. In May 2016 the first liquefaction plant ( English train ) was put into operation. Five more are planned, so that the total capacity will increase to 27 million t per year (mtpa). The first LNG to Europe was in April 2016 with a ship fromWorld icon Teekay delivered to Portugal.

A second terminal with a planned capacity of 22.5 mtpa is currently being built in Corpus Christi .

Cheniere Energy also operates the Creole Trail Pipeline and the Corpus Christi Pipeline .

history

Charif Souki took over a shell company in 1996 and renamed it Cheniere — Cajun . In 2001 he announced his intention to build LNG import terminals on the south coast of the USA. By 2005 he had raised $ 2 billion in investor capital and began construction. When the import terminal in Sabine Pass opened on April 21, 2008, however, the changed framework conditions made it practically worthless. However, as the oil price rose, natural gas exports became attractively priced due to the oil price link . In October 2011 he was able to sign a gas contract with the BG Group . After Souki had raised more money, the conversion of the terminal (liquefaction plants) could start.

Although the company has never made a profit, Souki has paid millions in salaries. At the urging of Carl Icahn , he had to resign in December 2015.

structure

In addition to Cheniere Energy , Cheniere Energy Partners Holdings (ISIN US16411W1080) is also listed on the stock exchange . However, the subsidiary is to be taken over by the parent company.
