Cherish is a 1985 song by Kool & the Gang , written by the band and released on their sixteenth album Emergency .

history

First released in May 1985, Cherish became a number one hit in Canada and is popularly used as a wedding anthem . On the B-side the song Ladies' Night is included.

There are versions of the song of different lengths and also remixes ; the original is 4:45 minutes long. The song begins with an intro played on the keyboard that is followed by a drum kit. Beach noises are played as an effect.

There is also a remix of the song that lasts 3:58 minutes and combines the beach sounds with the acoustic guitar . Additional drums can be heard while James "JT" Taylor sings.

A 12-inch version, in which the hit lasts 5:43 minutes, has the same empty phrases, but contains passages played with the saxophone . In another 12-inch version, which lasts 4:22 minutes, everything is played with the saxophone and is therefore called a saxophone mix.

Furthermore, one could hear the song in the US - comedy 17 Again - Back to High School (2009).

Music video

At the beginning of the video , the band plays the song on a beach. Then a woman comes out of the water to a little boy and his father, what the little boy notices. The man goes to the woman and they both fall in love, after the meeting they walk along the beach. During the chorus you can see several people in the clip while one of them is riding a white horse . Later they all sit at the same table. Once again you see the couple alone after they got up, while someone is drawing a sketch and the little boy is building a sand castle. In the evening everyone sits around a campfire, at the end someone takes away a cloth and words that were written in the sand emerge: “Cherish the Love”.
