Chester-le-Street was a district in County Durham in England . The administrative seat was the city of Chester-le-Street , in which around half of the population lived. Other important places were Beamish and Pelton Fell .
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and resulted from the merger of the Urban District Chester-le-Street and the Rural District Chester-le-Street.
On April 1, 2009, in addition to Chester-le-Street, all Dictricts in County Durham were abolished as part of the administrative reform and merged into the Unitary Authority Durham .
