Chester Brown
Chester Brown (born May 16, 1960 in Montreal ) is a Canadian comic artist.
Life
Brown grew up in Chateauguay , a suburb of Montreal . His comic book career began in Toronto in 1983 . For the first few years he published his works there (mainly mini-comix and his own magazine Yummy Fur ) himself. From 1986 he was published by Vortex Comics, where his first graphic novel , Ed the Happy Clown, was published in 1989 . In 1991 Brown moved to Drawn and Quarterly (D&Q), where he published heavily autobiographical stories and a free interpretation of the Gospel of Matthew in Yummy Fur (until 1994), followed by his experimental (and unfinished) series Underwater (1994-97), which from an infant's point of view addressed the slow understanding of the environment and language. D & Q also published The Playboy (1992, the same year in German as The Playboy Stories at Jochen Enterprises ), I Never Liked You (1994, the same year as Fuck at Jochen), The Little Man Short Strips 1980-1995 (1998 ) and a new edition of Ed the Happy Clown (2000).
This was followed by a biography of the legendary Canadian politician and mystic Louis Riel (Louis Riel: A Comic-Strip Biography) . This comic was published from 1999 to 2003 as a series, which then appeared in a revised version in 2003 in a 272-page anthology and was nominated for two Eisner Awards in 2004 ("Best Graphic Album - Reprint" and "Best Publication Design"). and was named one of the ten best comics of 2003 by Time .
His most recent work is Paying for It , which describes his experience of sex work from the perspective of a customer. When I pay for sex - records of a client , this comic was published in 2012 with a longer section with explanations in German.
