Drawn and Quarterly (also D + Q ) is a Canadian comic publisher based in Montréal , Québec . The publishing house emerged from the comic anthology magazine of the same name , which was started in 1990 by Chris Oliveros based on Art Spiegelman's RAW .
In addition to the anthology magazine, which only appears once a year, Drawn and Quarterly publishes graphic novels and ongoing series in the field of independent and alternative comics.
In addition to the obvious meaning ( drawn and quarterly ), the publisher's name is also a play on words on the execution method of four-parting , in English to be drawn and quartered .
