Chhapra ( Hindi छपरा Chaparā ; also Chapra ) is a city in the Indian state of Bihar .

Chhapra is located on the north bank of the Ganges below the confluence of the Ghaghara . The city forms the administrative seat of the Saran district . It is located 40 km west-northwest of Patna . Chhapra is a city of Nagar Parishad status with 44 wards . In the 2011 census, the population was just over 200,000. Several national highways cross in Chhapra.

The Arrah – Chhapra Bridge has been crossing the Ganges since 2017 .
