The Chiapas Bridge is a road bridge in the Mexican state of Chiapas . It was opened in December 2003 and spans the Nezahualcóyotl reservoir , also known as Malpaso, in southern Mexico. The bridge was constructed as a girder bridge , with the bridge panel and pillars made of steel and the piles of reinforced concrete . The incremental launching method with temporary bracing was used during construction . The structure is part of the stretch of road between Las Choapas and Ocozocoautla de Espinosa , the extension of the Mexican Highway 180D. This road connects the towns of Cosolealecaque and Tuxtla Gutiérrez . The bridge shortens the route between Mexico City and Chiapas by approximately 100 kilometers and a travel time of 3 hours.
