Chiara Appendino (2016)

Chiara Appendino (born June 12, 1984 in Moncalieri , Turin agglomeration) is an Italian politician ( MoVimento 5 Stelle ).

On June 19, 2016, she was elected Mayor of Turin and the metropolitan city of Turin .

Life

Appendino is the daughter of Domenico Appendino, an Italian manager, and his wife, an English teacher. She attended the Liceo classico Vincenzo Gioberti in Turin and then studied economics at the Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi in Milan .

From September 2007 to the end of 2010 she worked as a controller for the soccer club Juventus Turin , from January 1, 2010 in the same position in her husband's company.

In 2010 she married the Turin entrepreneur Marco Lavatelli. Their daughter was born in January 2016.

Appendino, as part of the Erasmus program for a few months in Germany high school seniors of a Catholic school in North Rhine-Westphalia visited and speaks fluent German.

Political career

Appendino was initially interested in Sinistra Ecologia Libertà, which was founded in 2009 . When the MoVimento 5 Stelle (M5S) party came into being in 2010 , it became a member.

In the elections in Turin in May 2011, she was elected city councilor for M5S.

On November 8, 2015, she announced her candidacy for the mayor of Turin. In the first ballot she received 30.92 percent of the votes cast, in the second ballot she won the runoff election against Piero Fassino , who had been mayor of Turin since 2011, with 54.56 percent .
