Abba Naor
Abba Naor (born March 21, 1928 in Kaunas , Lithuania ) is a Jewish Holocaust survivor.
Life
At the age of thirteen Naor was deported to the ghetto in Kaunas , followed by resettlements to the Stutthof concentration camp and the subcamps of the Dachau concentration camp . Most recently, he had to survive the hardest forced labor in the Utting subcamp of the Kaufering camp and the death march in the spring of 1945. In Waakirchen he was liberated by the US Army and after some time emigrated to Israel .
Since the 1990s he has supported initiatives for further memorials along the route of the death march. Since 2001 he has been a representative of the former Landsberg prisoners on the board of the international Dachau committee and since 2017 its vice-president as successor to Max Mannheimer . He keeps the memory of the Holocaust alive by working in the Bavarian Memorial Foundation ; He has been a full member of the Board of Trustees since 2015.
Naor is very active as a co-initiator of the student exchange between German and Israeli children and organizes memorial trips for concentration camp survivors and their relatives from Israel to Germany. As a contemporary witness, he reports on his history of persecution during National Socialism at schools in Bavaria .
In 2014 his autobiography was published.
Abba Naor lives in Rehovot ( Israel ) and Munich . Like no other, he personifies the values of reconciliation, international understanding and friendship (quotation from the laudation for the award of the Bavarian Order of Merit).
