The latticed heath ( Chiasmia clathrata ) even clover herb lawn grid welts tensioner or clover clamp is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of the tensioner (Geometridae). The species also flies during the day, although it belongs to the moths.

features

The moth has a wingspan of up to 25 millimeters. Fore and hind wings are white to yellow and more or less darkly pollinated. The front wings have four black to dark brown transverse lines, on the hind wings there are three transverse lines. With the roughly radial, dark wing veins, a grid pattern is created that gave the butterfly its name. Basically, the coloring varies little, but the drawing is quite variable. The cross lines often flow together.

Similar species

The females of the Heidespanner ( Ematurga atomaria ) are similar in color to the grid tensioner and are also diurnal.

distribution

The species is widespread in Europe. It occurs from Italy to far into Scandinavia. In the west it is proven from the British Isles. In the east it extends to China, Japan and Korea. In the south to Anatolia and Iran.

Occurrence and flight times

The species is widespread in open grasslands. Two generations are trained. The first generation flies from mid-April to around mid-June, the second mostly incomplete generation flies from mid-June to mid-August, in some areas the generations overlap. It can be found in the lowlands up to the higher elevations of the low mountain ranges. However, it is absent in the highest regions. The moth is diurnal and nocturnal, it comes to light at night.

Reproduction

The greenish eggs have a rough hexagonal pattern. The caterpillar is brownish green to reddish. There is a broad, white side stripe, while the back line is indistinct. The doll is stocky with a cremaster with a simple tip. It hibernates and the first moths hatch in mid-April next year.

nutrition

The caterpillars live on different species of clover and on alfalfa . The moths visit flowers.

Taxonomy and nomenclature

The species appears in some plants in the combination Semiothisa clathrata . However, the genus Semiothisa refers to a different group of species, predominantly tropical butterflies. The species is divided into several subspecies.
