Chitchana Yukitsukai Sugar ( Jap. ちっちゃな雪使いシュガー, ~ Shuga ) is an anime - television series in 2001. The manga to the series appeared in Germany under the title Tiny Snow Fairy Sugar .

The work is about the girl Saga Bergmann and the season fairy Sugar and can be classified into the genres of comedy and drama .

action

The eleven-year-old Saga Bergmann lives with her grandmother Regina in the small German town of Mühlenburg. Saga's mother, a well-known concert pianist and composer, died in an accident three years ago. After that, Saga became very closed and hardly ever goes out, but she is always friendly and polite. She is only really happy when she can play on her mother's piano, which (as they cannot fit it in the house) is in the shop of a musician friend of hers.

One day Saga meets the little seasonal fairy Sugar, who saves her from starvation. Sugar is quite young and still in training, and in order to complete it, Sugar must find the kirameki who will bring her magical flower to full bloom; however, she doesn't know what the kirameki is. The seed of the flower that Sugar has to plant in her home for the duration of her training will soon germinate on Saga's toy piano, so that Sugar will move in with her right away. They and other fairies can only be seen by Saga, but not by other people.

Soon other fairies will appear in training, such as the impulsive Salt, a sun fairy, and the level-headed Pepper, a wind fairy. Through the presence of the little fairy and her search for the kirameki , Saga's life is mixed up, so that the people around them continually begin to wonder what is actually going on with Saga. But in the end, Saga Sugar, of all things, helps to find the Kirameki at a point where the little fairy would least have suspected ...

Characters

  • Saga Bergman : After her mother dies, Saga lives with her grandmother Regina, her only living relative. Saga works part time in a coffee shop, plans everything in advance and is a perfectionist, plus she takes a bath every night. With Sugar and the other fairies, however, her life begins to turn into a battlefield because she is the only one who can see and hear her.
  • Sugar is a little snow fairy whose dearest wish is to become as skillful and warm-hearted as her mother. Sugar behaves like a toddler, is very clumsy, and is easily distracted - traits that often clash with Saga's love of order. However, Sugar is also very enthusiastic and open-hearted, and she and Saga are slowly becoming close friends. Sugar has a habit of kissing people she likes, and she plays a piccolo to make snow .
  • Pepper is a wind fairy in training and uses her harp to control the wind. She is very calm, polite and gentle and tries to get along well with everyone. For the duration of her training, she lives in a veterinary clinic, the operator of which has a newborn baby that Pepper takes care of. In addition to her fairy skills, she also has the gift of talking to animals.
  • Salt is a male sun fairy in training and uses a trumpet for his magic . At first he wants to be a sun fairy just like his father, but later he enjoys being a cloud fairy more.
  • Norma and Anne are Saga's best friends and classmates. While Anne is gentle, polite, and calm, Norma is a lively crosshead who is very interested in the latest - and the most unusual - fashion trends.
  • Greta is a classmate of Saga and at the same time her - self-proclaimed - arch rival. She herself comes from a wealthy family, but is far from being popular with Sagas and tries (usually in vain) to outdo them on all possible occasions. Despite all the rivalry, however, she is basically not a bad person and at the end of the series becomes an important key figure for the success of Sugar's training.
  • Ginger is a young, beautiful rain fairy who makes it rain with her violin . She is in love with the cloud fairy Turmeric, but is at the same time heavily courted by the elder.
  • Turmeric is a male cloud fairy who can conjure up and shape the clouds with his harpsichord at will. He is very popular with the female fairies because of his good looks and his calm demeanor, but all of his interests are primarily in perfecting his skills.
  • The oldest is the chief of the season fairies. He is able to conjure up any kind of weather with his magic wand (more like a conductor's baton ). Although he is supposed to oversee the training of the young fairies, he often takes the time to win the hearts of the pretty gingers.
  • Vincent is the young star of the Hammond theater group, which is particularly famous for its stirring play "The Bear Pianist". Vincent is also a talented piano player who adores Saga's mother as a role model, but his way of expressing his opinion without much thought does not put his relationship with Saga under a good star at first. In addition, Vincent seems to be able to perceive the seasonal fairies, even if, strangely enough, he does not react to them as intensely as Saga.
  • Grandmother Regina is a good-natured old lady and Saga's only relative. She is very much appreciated by Saga and Sugar for her friendly and calm demeanor and good cuisine.
  • Phil , a classmate of Sagas, is an enthusiastic, if not very successful, junior inventor who often sneaks into their workshop in the junkyard with his friends and assistants Jan and Alan to do all sorts of crazy things.
  • Basil and Cinnamon are a male thunder fairy and a male ice fairy, who can conjure up lightning and ice with a drum and hand basin, respectively . Both are quite troublemakers, however, who use their powers more to play pranks and have a lot of fun. At the end of the series, despite their demeanor, they still manage to find their Kirameki and thus complete their training.
  • Miss Hannah , Saga's class teacher, is a soulful young woman who is deeply concerned about the well-being of her students.
  • Luchino runs the cafe where Saga works and which she practically runs herself. A rather relaxed fellow who always likes to nibble on a biscuit.
  • Henry is the keeper of a tower (a popular lookout point) on the city wall, who also watches over the drawbridge that is set into the tower. Is "abused" by Saga, who regularly brings him coffee, as a kind of guinea pig for her experiments with blending.
  • Paul is a young clerk in the music business who owns Saga's mother's piano. Whenever Saga comes by and his stern-looking boss is n't around , he lets her play the piano in the shop.
  • Joe is a thieving raven who commonly shows up as the fairy antagonist, especially when it comes to glittering items that he jealously hoards.

Production and publication

The animation studio JCStaff produced the 24-part anime series from 2001 to 2002 based on the idea of Haruka Aoi . Directed by Shinichiro Kimura , the character design is by Keiko Kawashima, based on the drafts by Koge Donbo , and the artistic direction was taken over by Shichiro Kobayashi. The series was broadcast from October 3, 2001 to March 27, 2002 after midnight (and thus on the previous television day ) by the Japanese broadcaster TBS , and from December 1, 2001 to May 11, 2002 on BS-i .

On August 21 and 28, 2003, the series was followed by a two-part special, Chitchana Yukitsukai Sugar Tokubetsuhe , broadcast by BS-i. The story of the special takes place four years after Sugar finished her education. Saga finds an old costume that she wore for a theater performance in her school, whereby Sugar, Salt and Pepper also took a liking to acting. This also clarifies a question that was raised in the series but never answered there.

The anime and special were broadcast on several television networks in the Philippines and appeared on Geneon Entertainment in North America. The series has also been translated into Korean.
