Ferdinand Wurzer (chemist)
Ferdinand Wurzer (born June 2, 1765 in Brühl , † July 30, 1844 in Marburg ) was a German physician and chemist .
Life
Wurzer first studied philosophy and later medicine at the Electoral Cologne Academy in Bonn , where he 1788 Dr. med. received his doctorate. He practiced as a doctor from 1789 to 1794. In addition to his professional activity, he was passionate about chemistry. He then held lectures as a professor in Bonn until 1797. In that year he became professor of chemistry at the newly established central school in Bonn. In 1805 he moved to the University of Marburg as a professor of chemistry and medicine . Wurzer is considered to be the founder of chemistry at the local university, of which he was rector four times between 1809 and 1821.
His nephew was the doctor, landowner and politician Ferdinand Wurzer (1808–1875).

- 1819 Knight's Cross of the Golden Order of the Lion for his services to the University of Marburg
- 1834 honorary citizen of Marburg

- In 1904 a street in Bad Godesberg was named after him.
