Georg Schwedt

Georg Schwedt (born July 3, 1943 in Hessisch Oldendorf ) is a German analytical chemist . He is the author of numerous non-fiction and textbooks, particularly on topics relating to the history of chemistry and food chemistry .

Life

Schwedt is the son of a druggist . In addition to chemistry, Schwedt has had a keen interest in German and world literature since school . He decided to study chemistry at the TU Braunschweig as well as in Göttingen and did his doctorate at the University of Hanover . He then became department head at the Chemical Investigation Office in Hagen and completed his habilitation in analytical chemistry at the University of Siegen in 1978 . After a professorship in Göttingen, he became director of the Institute for Food Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry at the University of Stuttgart . From 1987 until his retirement in 2006 he was a professor at the TU Clausthal .

Georg Schwedt developed the SuperLab interactive laboratory and combined numerous experimental lectures with it. He was also significantly involved in the creation of the ScoLab school laboratory at the Hamburg Wholesale Market and the German Additive Museum . In 2017, the Hamburg Senate cut funding for science lessons in the ScoLab school laboratory .

In March 2010, in recognition of his longstanding commitment as a lecturer and author, he received the Prize of the Society of German Chemists (GDCh) for journalists and writers.
