Association of Public Libraries in Berlin

The Association of Berlin Public Libraries (VÖBB) was launched as a joint project of the 12 Berlin districts, the Central and State Library Berlin Foundation (ZLB) and the Berlin Senate Department for Science, Research and Culture (since the end of 2016 Senate Department for Culture and Europe ) .

history

The "starting shot" was given in 1995, when the State of Berlin provided around DM 20 million in project funds.

The library network were in 2016 68  libraries , 10  mobile libraries and two  school libraries in. The more than 2.7 million media with inventory records of the libraries participating in the VÖBB can be researched via an online catalog . The library management system used for this is ADIS / BMS from aStec .

In addition to online interlibrary loan , the VÖBB also offers other services such as transport to a “library of your choice” or home as well as notification by SMS or e-mail via provided media or the approaching end of the loan period.

Since 2009, the VÖBB has been running the TENIVER (Technological Innovation in Information Supply ) project, which was funded by ERDF funds from the State of Berlin in the amount of € 5 million, further funds from the Berlin Senate in the amount of € 2.5 million and funds from the network participants Developed and introduced automatic booking of media using RFID technology.

Organization of the network

The VÖBB service center coordinates and looks after operations, including the hotline. The IT Service Center Berlin (ITDZ Berlin) is responsible for server and network administration as well as data backup for the network.
