Chief of Protocol of the United States
The Chief of Protocol of the United States ( Chief of Protocol of the United States , CPR ) is a high official - Chief of Protocol - the United States Department of State with the title of ambassador and the official title of United States Assistant Secretary of State . He is in personal union head of agency of the Office of the Chief of Protocol . The United States Chief of Protocol reports directly to the United States Secretary of State . It ranks 39th in the United States' protocol ranking .
Office of the Chief of Protocol is the name of the institution (agency) whose authority is part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Before July 12, 1965, the office was part of the White House. The seat of the authority is in Washington, DC The office of the chief of protocol was created on February 4, 1928. The Office of the Chief of Protocol organizes around 350 visits by foreign dignitaries each year.
The CPR representative is named Assistant Chief of Protocol .

The authority has five departments: Management , Visits ( state visits ), Ceremonials ( ceremonial ), Diplomatic Affairs (diplomatic issues / relations) and support of the guest house Blair House . The department heads use the title Assistant Chief . The organizational unit is one of the offices / agencies reporting directly to the Foreign Minister (Bureaus / Offices Reporting Directly to the Secretary) .
Since 1961 the position of Chief of Protocol has been shown as an ambassadorial post . The office was initially called the Chief of Protocol for the White House . The President of the United States has sole nomination and the nominee must be approved by the Senate. The office is not only accessible to members of the Foreign Service , but also to persons outside the diplomatic service or the public service (non-career) .
tasks
The CPR is the supreme “authority” in the United States on matters relating to the federal diplomatic protocol .
The authority has 21 core tasks, for example:
- Advising the President of the United States and his Vice-Presidents and the Secretary of State of the United States on national and international protocol issues.
- Accreditation of diplomats in the United States.
- The Chief of Protocol of the United States officer or his representative takes part in all state visits by the President abroad.
- Maintains the list of Ceremonials Division of the Office of the Chief of Protocol in the United States .
