Chiesa Mariano Spasmo ( German : Church of Mary Pain / Suffering, also Italian : Madonna Adolorata) is a Roman Catholic church in the center of Tirano in the Italian province of Sondrio , Lombardy region . The church belongs to the ecclesiastical region of Lombardy , the diocese of Como , and is dedicated to Our Lady ( Sorrows / Sorrows of Mary ) (see also the inscription on the entrance portal).

The Mariano Spasmo church stands on the edge of the Piazza Parravicini near the Palazzo Parravicini at about 448 m. ü. M. not far from the Adda (90 m). The old town ( parish church of San Martino ) is around 150 m away and the Basilica Madonna di Tirano around 1.3 km as the crow flies.

An oratorio dedicated to the Virgin Mary existed here before and was mentioned by the Bishop of Como, Feliciano Ninguarda , in 1589. In 1664 the oratory was converted into the chapel of the Palazzo Parravicini.

The temple-like building has a regular octagonal basic structure (similar to the Church of San Rocco ) near the Madonna di Tirano basilica. A small apse with a bell ridge is attached to the south-western side . On four of the eight sides there are windows with slug panes and two in the apse, richly decorated with ornaments and putti .

The interior is partly in a desolate condition, the earlier frescoes / paintings or decorations and pictures, especially in the dome in the area of the octagonal part of the building, are difficult or partly no longer recognizable. The apse is much better preserved and restored.

In the church there are commemorative plaques of the Merizzi or Parravicini (also: Paravicini or Paravvicini) families who lived here. Giacomo Merizzi, August 15, 1834 - March 22, 1916, was e.g. B. Titular Archbishop of Mocissus and Ancyra and Bishop of Vigevano and founded the Church of Sacro Cuore in Tirano around 1910 on the opposite side of the Adda (northeast, about 120 m as the crow flies). After the death of Teresa Parravicini, ownership of the church passed to its current owners, the Merizzi family.
