history
The name comes from Latin and means "the mountain of magical forests". Pastoral and agricultural activities date back to the pre-Roman times of the Celtic settlers. In the 12th century Chievo had a church, a hospital and a fortress where Frederick I spent a few nights. The Corte Bionde is the best preserved building from medieval times. Around 1450 the village moved about 100 meters closer to Verona due to the better climate and vegetation. The actual parish church with a reliquary was built during this time. In 1892, the ten church bells were cast in the Veronese art style and are still preserved today.
