Chili and the Whalekillers is an Austrian-Icelandic alternative rock band from Salzburg and Reykjavík .
history
The band was founded in summer 2009 by the songwriters Chili Tomasson and Hjörtur Hjörleiffsson. Until a solid formation developed among the members, Chili and the Whalekillers played concerts in Salzburg and Iceland. After the release of the first album The Tragic Tale of Julie and the Crying Clown , concerts at the 2011 Biennale in Salzburg and its first appearance in Austrian media followed.
In spring 2012 the second album The Banker on the Run was released in Salzburg . The concept album , in which the band dealt with the global economic crisis, was again positively received by the media.
In 2014, the group surprisingly made it to number 3 in the Icelandic charts with the title track of the same name on their third album Turn .
The band members currently live in Vienna .
