The China-Nepal Highway (Zhong-Ni gonglu 中 尼 公路), also known as Friendship Highway , is a road connection between Lhasa in the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China and the Sino-Nepal Friendship Bridge on the border with Nepal . There it is connected to Kathmandu , the capital of Nepal, via the Araniko Highway .

The Friendship Highway is 829 km long and at the same time the westernmost section of the national road 318 ; it leads through Doilungdêqên , Xigazê , Sa'gya , Lhazê and Nyalam . Construction began in 1963 and was opened to traffic in 1967. In addition to opening up Tibet, it serves as the main road connection to Nepal and freight to India.
