On June 6, 1994, a Tupolev Tu-154 crashed shortly after taking off from Xi'an-Xianyang Airport on China Northwest Airlines Flight 2303 from Xianyang to Guangzhou . All 160 occupants died in the worst plane crash in China .

Plane and crew

The aircraft was an eight-year-old Tupolev Tu-154 M, which was equipped with three Solovyov D-30 Ku-154-11 engines and had completed 12,507 flight hours.

Just after eight in the morning, the plane took off from Xi'an-Xianyang Airport to fly to Guangzhou Airport . But just eight to ten minutes later, it broke in the air and crashed 18 miles southeast of Xi'an-Xianyang Airport.

root cause

The cause of the worst plane crash in China was a maintenance failure the night before. The bank control function of the autopilot was inadvertently linked to the rudder control and the yaw control function of the autopilot to the aileron control; d. H. when a turn was to be flown, the rudder moved . This caused such strong vibrations that the plane broke in midair.
