China Black was a British pop and reggae duo that had several chart hits from 1994 to 1995 . The debut single Searching reached number 4 on the British charts and thus became the band's greatest success .
Band history
Simon Fung, whose parents are from Hong Kong , and Errol Reid, who has his roots in the West Indies , founded the duo China Black in the early 1990s. The band name was created as an allusion to their origins. The first joint single Searching appeared in 1992 and stayed at the top of the British reggae charts for 10 weeks. Then the two musicians disappeared from the public eye for two years.
It was only when a new search by Searching hit stores in 1994 that China Black climbed the next step on the ladder of success and reached number four in the UK charts and a less spectacular number 82 in Germany . With Stars , Fung and Reid followed up with a top 20 hit in the United Kingdom three months later. Almost See You (Somewhere) narrowly missed the top 30 of the domestic hit parade in 1995. In the same year, Swing Low Sweet Chariot , a collaboration with Ladysmith Black Mambazo , was number 15 and was the last chart listing for China Black.
