The Chitanana River is a 105 km long left tributary of the Tanana River in the interior of Alaska .

It rises in the Chitanatala Mountains and flows northeastward to its confluence with the Tanana River 43 km southwest of Manley Hot Springs . The Chitanana River is part of the river system of the Yukon River .

The name goes back to the name of the Tanana , a people of the indigenous people of Alaska , documented by Lieutenant JS Herron in 1899 for the river.
