Chiyori Tateno

Chiyori Tateno , after marriage Chiyori Masuchi , ( Japanese 立 野 千代 里 , Tateno Chiyori ; born June 25, 1970 in Moriguchi ) is a former Japanese judoka . In 1992 she was third in the lightweight Olympic Games, in the weight class up to 56 kilograms.

Athletic career

The 1.55 m tall Chiyori Tateno took third place at the Goodwill Games in Seattle in 1990 . In 1991 she reached the final at the Asian Championships in Osaka and received the silver medal behind the South Korean Jung Sun-yong . At the World Championships in Barcelona , she was eliminated in the hope round.

The Olympic premiere of women's judo also took place in Barcelona in 1992. In her first fight at the Olympic Games , Tateno came on against the Dutch Gooitske Marsman by referee decision (yusei-gachi). In the quarterfinals she was defeated by the Spaniard Míriam Blasco, also by yusei-gachi. After victories over Jung Sun-yong, the Polish Maria Gontowicz-Szałas and the Belgian Nicole Flagothier in the hope round, Chiyori Tateno received a bronze medal.

At the 1993 World Championships in Hamilton , Tateno defeated the Hungarian Maria Pekli in the quarter-finals and the Cuban Driulis González in the semifinals . In the final she lost to the British Nicola Fairbrother . Two years later, the student at the University of Tsukuba met Driulis González in the finals of the Universiade in Fukuoka and lost. At the Asian Championships in 1995 she also reached the final and lost to Jung Sun-yong. In 1996 she won a bronze medal at the Asian Championships. Chiyori Tateno received her last international medal at the 1997 World Championships in Paris . After a quarter-final defeat against Isabel Fernández from Spain, the Japanese won a bronze medal with three wins in the hope round .
