Jung Sun-yong (born March 11, 1971 ) is a former South Korean judoka . In 1996 she won the Olympic silver medal in the lightweight, the weight category to 56 kg.

Career

Jung Sun-yong won a bronze medal at the Asian Championships in Damascus in 1988. At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988, women's judo was held as a demonstration competition. Jung lost her opening match against the French Catherine Arnaud . At the World Championships in Belgrade in 1989 , she won a bronze medal. In 1990 she won the Goodwill Games in Seattle and won a bronze medal at the World Student Championships. In 1991 she won the Tournoi de Paris . At the 1991 World Championships , she finished fifth after losing to the Spanish Miriam Blasco in the semifinals . In November of the same year she defeated the Japanese Chiyori Tateno in the final of the Asian Championships in Osaka . In 1992 at the Olympic premiere of women's judo , Jung defeated Altagracia Contreras from the Dominican Republic in her opening match . In the round of 16 she lost to Miriam Blasco, in the round of hope she lost to Chiyori Tateno.

In early 1993, Jung won the Tournoi de Paris for the second time . At the 1993 World Championships she lost to the British Nicola Fairbrother in the quarter-finals , after two wins and one defeat in the Hope Round she finished fifth. At the Asian Championships in Macau in 1993, Jung defeated the Indian Poonan Chopra in the final . In 1994 she won the final of the Asian Games in Hiroshima against the Japanese Noriko Narazaki . In 1995 she won the Tournoi de Paris for the third time . She received a bronze medal at the Universiade in Fukuoka. At the World Championships in Chiba , Jung defeated Nicola Fairbrother in the quarter-finals and the Brazilian Danielle Zangrando in the semifinals . In the final, Jung lost to the Cuban Driulis González . Two months after the World Championships, Jung won the final of the Asian Championships in New Delhi against Chiyori Tateno. At the end of her career, Jung Sun-yong defeated the Belgian Marisabel Lomba in the second round of the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , the Japanese Noriko Mizoguchi in the quarter-finals and the Spanish Isabel Fernández in the semifinals . Driulis González won the final with a Yuko rating.
