Chizuru Soneta ( Japanese 曽 根 田 千 鶴 , Soneta Chizuru ; born February 15, 1978 in Mogami ) is a former Japanese cross-country skier . She belongs to the "winter combat training unit" (Tōsenkyō) of the ground self-defense forces .

Career

Soneta participated in FIS competitions from 1997 to 2007 . She mainly competed in the Continental Cup. She got ten victories. She ran her first World Cup race in Falun in February 2000 , which she finished in 48th place in the 10 km freestyle. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2001 in Lahti , she finished 58th over 10 km classic and 48th over 15 km classic. In February 2004 she got her first World Cup points with the 24th place in the 10 km freestyle in La Clusaz . A week later in Oberstdorf she reached 11th place in the 15 km skiathlon race, her best place in an individual World Cup race. Her best results at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2005 in Oberstdorf were 32nd place in the 30 km mass start race and 12th place in the relay. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Pragelato , she achieved 38th place in the 15 km pursuit race and 25th place in the 30 km mass start race. In her last season 2006/07 she took part in the Far East Cup , which she finished in second place in the overall standings. At the domestic Nordic World Ski Championships in 2007 in Sapporo , she came in 48th place over 10 km freestyle, 38th place in the skiathlon and 24th place in the 30 km mass start race.
