Chloromyia formosa is a fly fromthe weapon fly family (Stratiomyidae).
features
The flies reach a body length of 9 to 10 millimeters. Their elongated body is colored metallic green. The hemispherical head has hairy compound eyes , which meet in the males. The first sensor element is longer than the following, the third is longitudinally oval, four-ringed and has an end bristle dorsally at the front, which is ciliate at its base. The scutellum has no thorns. The females have a transverse furrow on the forehead above the antennae. The head is hairy brownish, the wings are also colored. The legs are black, only the knees are yellow.
Occurrence and way of life
The species is widespread in Europe and can often be seen on umbellifers in damp mixed forests from the end of May . The larvae develop in soils rich in humus.
