Choi Yun-kyeom (born April 21, 1962 ) is a former South Korean soccer player who played for Yukong Elephants . He is currently under contract with Jeju United FC as a coach.

Career as a player

Choi Yun-kyeom studied at Incheon University and played for the university team during this time.

Football career in South Korea

After graduating from university, he signed a contract with Yukong Elephants in 1986 . In 1989 he became K-League champion with Yukong . At the end of 1992 he ended his football career after 6 years and switched to the coaching department within the club.

Career as a coach

In 1993 he became an assistant coach in Yukong. He held this position until 2001, before becoming an interim coach. In late 2001 he was introduced as the new coach for the 2002 season. However, he could not perform this function for long. In the same year he was released from his duties as a coach again. In 2003 he signed a contract with Daejeon Citizen. There he was introduced as the new coach. In 2004 he finished second in the Korean League Cup with Daejeon. He was 2 points short of winning the League Cup. In 2007 his time at Daejeon Citizen ended and he left the club. It wasn't until 4 years later that he came back to football as a coach. In 2011 he became the coach of the Vietnamese club Hoàng Anh Gia Lai . He remained there until 2014, before moving to the start of 2015 Gangneung to Gangwon FC went. In 2015 he finished 7th in the K League Challenge with Gangwon FC . In 2016 he was 4th with Gangwon in the regular season and was able to qualify for the play-offs. He beat Busan IPark in the semifinals and Bucheon FC in the 1995 play-off final . In the relegation his team was able to play 0-0 against Seongnam FC at home and return to the K League Classic in Seongnam with a 1-1 draw thanks to the away goals rule with Gangwon FC . The rise is his greatest success as a coach so far. In his promotion season, some well-known players were committed. After Gangwon FC was among the top 4 teams until the middle of the 2017 season, the club slipped back to 6th place after a few defeats. The club even threatened to fall to 7th place, the relegation round place. On August 14, 2017, the club separated from him and he was temporarily replaced by Park Hyo-jin . In early 2018 he was introduced as a coach at Busan IPark FC . He finished the season with Busan in third place and then won the play-off games. In the following relegation games, he lost the relegation against FC Seoul with Busan , so that he could not realize the promotion. As a result of the missed season goal, his employer fired him on December 12, 2018.
