Chongtar Kangri (also Chongtar Kangri I ) is a 7315  m (according to other sources 7302  m or 7370  m ) high mountain in the Karakorum -Gebirge in southern Xinjiang ( China ).

location

The mountain is located in the Baltoro Muztagh massif, 5 km from the Pakistani border. The K2 is located 12 km east-southeast of the Chongtar Kangri.

Ascent history

The first ascent was made on September 8, 1994 by a four-person expedition from Australia and New Zealand. Greg Mortimer , Luke Trihey and Colin Monteath reached the summit. Back then, Chongtar Kangri was the highest unclimbed mountain.

Minor peaks

The Chongtar Kangri has several secondary peaks: Chongtar North ( 7250  m ), Chongtar South ( 7180  m ), Chongtar Northeast ( 7145  m ) and Chongtar II ( 6857  m ). The Chongtar Nord was first climbed in the summer of 1994 by Colin Monteath, Lucas Trihey and Greg Mortimer.
