The Baltoro Muztagh is a mountain range in the Karakoram ( Asia ). Here are the four eight-thousanders of the Karakoram ( K2 , Broad Peak , Hidden Peak and Gasherbrum II ), as well as several seven-thousanders ( Gasherbrum III , IV , Skil Brum , Muztagh Tower etc.) and six-thousanders (e.g. the Trango towers ) .

location

The Paiju Peak at the west end of the Baltoro Muztagh

The Baltoro Mustagh extends north and east of the Baltoro Glacier. On the south side of the glacier are the Masherbrum Mountains with u. a. Masherbrum , Chogolisa and Baltoro Kangri . Apart from the westernmost mountain group, on the north side of the Baltoro Muztagh lies the Sarpo Laggo Glacier , which flows northeast towards the Shaksgam Valley . This wide valley forms the eastern limit of the mountain group.

The Pajiu Group forms the western corner of the Baltoro Muztagh. It borders in the south on the Braldu , the outlet of the Baltoro Glacier, and in the west on the Panmah Glacier and its outlet to the Braldu. North of the Pajiu Group, the Chiring Glacier flows east to the Nobande Sobande Glacier , the eastern arm of the Panmah Glacier. Between the Chiring Glacier and Sarpo Laggo Glacier on the northeast side lies the Western Muztagh Pass , which marks the border between the two main chains Panmah Muztagh in the north and Baltoro Muztagh in the south.

The Paiju group is followed by other mountain groups, which are delimited by side glaciers of the Baltoro glacier flowing from north to south. The Trango Glacier lies between the Paiju and Trango groups . To the east follow the Dung Glacier and the Biale ( 6772  m ) as well as the Muztagh Glacier, at the northern end of which the Eastern Muztagh Pass offers a possible transition to the Sarpo-Laggo Glacier. The Muztagh Tower ( 7276  m ) lies between the Muztagh and Biang glaciers. To the east of the Biang glacier are the mountains of the Savio group with the Brum ski slope ( 7410  m ). Northeast of this group lies the K2, the highest mountain in the entire Karakoram. The mountains of the Chongtar group lie in the northwest of K2 and thus not on the Karakoram main ridge. In the northeast of K2 lies the Skyang Kangri ( 7545  m ), which is the northeast corner pillar of the Baltoro Muztagh. The chain turns south. This is followed by Broad Peak ( 8051  m ) and the other mountains of the Gasherbrum group . The Sia Kangri joins the Urdok ridge , the southeast ridge of Gasherbrum I , as the southeast end point of the Baltoro-Muztagh. Because the southeast side of the Sia Kangri feeds the Siachen Glacier , the mountain was also counted as part of the Siachen Muztagh .

At Sia Kangri, the Baltoro Muztagh is connected to three other mountain ranges of the Karakoram. North of the Sia Kangri is the Indira Col , on the east side of which the main chain of the Karakoram is continued in the Siachen Muztagh. In the west lies the Conway saddle between Sia Kangri and Baltoro Kangri , which is one of the Masherbrum Mountains . The Sia La in the south of the Sia Kangri connects the Saltoro Mountains with the Baltoro Muztagh. The nutrient area of the Kondus Glacier lies between Sia La and Conway-Sattel . Its valley separates the Saltoro from the Masherbrum mountains. Both chains belong to the so-called little Karakoram.

Between Broad Peak in the southeast and K2 and Savioa Group in the north and west, the Godwin-Austen Glacier flows south, which joins the Upper Baltoro Glacier from the south at Concordiaplatz to form the Baltoro Glacier. The Upper Baltoro Glacier and its southeast tributary, the Abruzzi Glacier, separate the mountains of the Gasherbrum Group from the Masherbrum Mountains. On the north side of the Baltoro Muztagh, east of the Sarpo Laggo glacier, the K2 glacier flows north from this mountain. Its outflow flows into the Sarpo Laggo outflow and finally into the Shaksgam River. On the east side, the Northern Gasherbrum Glacier , the Urdok Glacier and the Saga Glacier flow in a north-easterly direction to the Shaksgamtal.
