The Paiju Peak (also Payu Peak ) is a 6610 m high mountain in the central Karakoram in Pakistan .
location
It is located on the north side of the Baltoro Glacier at the western end of the Baltoro Muztagh . It gives its name to a mountain range, the Paiju group mentioned , to which the mountains Uli Biaho Peak , Uli Biaho Tower and Choricho also belong. The height of the gap to Choricho, 3 km west-northwest, is almost 500 m.
Ascent history
In 1974 there was an attempted ascent by a Pakistani-American expedition led by Nicholas B. Clinch, in which a Pakistani member was killed in an accident. In the following year, a French expedition under Jean Fréhel attempted the first ascent.
Finally, in 1976, a Pakistani mountaineering group managed to climb Paiju Peak. Bashir Ahmed, Manzoor Hussain and Nazir Ahmed Sabir reached the summit on July 20, 1976. The group was accompanied by the American climber Allen Steck until shortly before the summit .
