Chouto is a place and a former municipality ( freguesia ) in central Portugal in the Ribatejo bordering the Alentejo . It belongs to the Chamusca district , which in turn is part of the Santarém district . Chouto has 584 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011). In the area there are hectare-sized hills with cork oaks that are peeled every seven years.

Chouto is located 119 m above sea level in a hilly area near Lisbon .

On September 29, 2013, the parishes of Chouto and Parreira were merged to form the new parish União das Freguesias de Parreira e Chouto .
