Christopher James Evans (born April 1, 1966 ) is a British radio and television presenter. From May to July 2016, he was the main presenter of the British auto magazine Top Gear on BBC 2. He currently hosts the Chris Evans Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2 Monday through Friday from 6.30am - 9.30am GMT.

Life

Evans was born in Warrington , England, the youngest child of a bookmaker . He has two siblings. In 1983 he hired Picadilly Radio in Manchester, which equates to his start as a radio presenter. At the same time he worked as a DJ in local pubs in the evenings .

He presented his first television program, Power Up , on BBC 1 from 1991 onwards. At the same time, he hosted several radio programs on BBC Radio 1 , which made his popularity steadily increasing in Great Britain.

Top gear

After the former trio of presenters Jeremy Clarkson , Richard Hammond and James May left the show and signed a contract with Amazon Prime , the BBC announced on June 16, 2015, as their successor, Chris Evans as the main presenter of the car show. In February 2016, Matt LeBlanc , Sabine Schmitz , Rory Reid , Chris Harris and Eddie Jordan were announced as co-hosts .

The first episode of the new (23rd total) season was broadcast on BBC 2 on May 29, 2016. Evans announced on July 4, 2016, after a year of working on the show, that he was stepping down as a Top Gear presenter on Twitter. Evans took responsibility for the falling audience numbers and ongoing media criticism of the show and said he was not good enough for the job.

Personal

Evans has four children. His first marriage to Carol McGriffin was divorced in 1998. In 2001 he married again. His second wife Billie Piper (* 1982) and he separated in 2005 and divorced in 2007.

Chris Evans owns several Ferraris , including valuable ones like a 250 GT Spyder California SWB and a 250 GTO .
