Christianity in Djibouti
The Christianity is the religion of 4.7% of the population in Djibouti .
The constitution mentions freedom of religion , but Djibouti is officially an Islamic state. Officially there is a tolerant attitude towards other faiths, but in 2007 there were reports of a local rejection of Christians by the population. A tendency towards Islamism is observed in the same report .
Denominations
The vast majority of Djiboutian Christians, 3.2% of the population, are Ethiopian Orthodox .
0.9% of the population are Catholics. The only Roman Catholic diocese is the Diocese of Djibouti . It was founded in 1914 as the Apostolic Prefecture of Djibouti. In 1955 it became the Diocese of Djibouti. The bishop's name is Giorgio Bertin .
0.07% of the population are Protestants . According to the World Christian Encyclopedia, the Eglise Protestante de Djibouti, the Greek Orthodox Church , the Red Sea Mission Team and the Mennonite Mission in Djibouti are also active among the denominations . The Eglise Protestante de Djibouti was founded in 1960. Among other things, she works for refugees. There is a congregation in Djibouti of the New Apostolic Church .
